If there’s one thing you can rely on with a British summer, it’s that you can’t rely on it. Glorious sunshine one week, jumpers and rain the next — and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. It keeps things interesting, and it means every good weather day feels like it’s been earned.
That unpredictability hasn’t stopped barbecue season getting fully underway at Castaway HQ. The moment the sun’s out, the grills are out, and we’ve been making the most of it — cooking up batch after batch of barbecue gyros outdoors, taste-testing in the name of “research,” and generally enjoying every excuse to be outside.
Fresh Produce, Better Food
Summer means better ingredients across the board. Fresher veg, better herbs, produce that’s actually in season rather than flown halfway round the world — and it shows in the food. There’s a noticeable difference cooking with produce that’s at its best, and this time of year gives us plenty to work with.
Barbecue gyros in particular have become a firm favourite in the test kitchen lately — that smoky char you only get from an open flame, paired with fresh, crisp toppings. It’s simple food done properly, which has always been the Castaway way.
